A few WordPress basic things to know for every website owner
Backend access
The backend access link for most WordPress websites is https://yourwebsitename.com/wp-admin/ however every web developer should change the backend URL and make it customized so that it’s hard for the hackers to make login attempts.
After opening the backend link https://yourwebsitename.com/wp-admin, you will be asked to enter the username and password to access the dashboard.
Changing admin password
If you wish to change the admin password, all that you need to do is Go to Users > Find user ‘admin’ > click edit and change the password. See the screenshot below:

Backing up the website
As a website owner or webmaster, you must know how to backup your WordPress website without hiring a web developer. It’s very important to have a complete backup of your fully functional website so that you can easily restore it, when needed.
All you need to do is install a backup plugin like “UpdraftPlus” and start creating the backups of your fully functional WordPress site.
Once you install the “UpdraftPlus” plugin on your WordPress website, you will need to go to “Settings” and download or save the backup of your website.
Checking plugins
If you want to check what plugins have been installed on your WordPress website, follow the below process:
Go to WordPress dashboard > On the left panel, click “Plugins” or mouse over “Plugins” and click on “Installed Plugins“. It will show all the plugins that have been installed on your website. This can be helpful for you if you want to update, disable, or enable any plugin.
Installing a plugin
To install a new plugin to your WordPress website, you need to log in to wp-admin and then:
Go to WordPress dashboard > On the left panel, mouse over “Plugins” and click on “Add New“. In the “Add New” plugins page, you will see an option to search plugins (see the screenshot below). You can type in the “search plugins” search bar and find your desired plugin. You can install & activate the desired plugin through this process.

This is perhaps one of the important things that you should know when you own a WordPress website. When you know how to manage the content on your existing webpages and how to create new pages on your website, you will not have to hire a website developer and pay them to do these minor changes.
To manage the existing pages of your website, you need to go to your WordPress admin dashboard, click on “Pages” or mouse over on the link “Pages” and click the link “All pages”. It will show you the list of all the pages that your website has.
You can simply hover/mouse over any of the pages from the list and it will show you a link “Edit” that you can click and enter the editing mode of that specific page.
Once you make the required changes to your webpage in the editing mode, you can simply click the button “Update” to save the information and make it live.

It will open a page where you can enter the name, title, description, and upload the images. Once you do that, you can simply click the button “Publish” to make it live.

There may be times when you will have to make minor changes to the content of your blogs or sometimes you may also need to create a new blog on your site. For making these types of small changes, you shouldn’t wait for your web developer and shouldn’t pay them as well. You can make these small changes yourself.
