In this blog post, I’ve shared some of the best ways to manage or define shipping charges on your WooCommerce store.

1. Enable Shipping Zones

Shipping zones allow you to define regions where you want to offer specific shipping methods.

How to do that?

Navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Zones
Set different shipping methods for each zone (Flat Rate, Free Shipping, and Local Pickup).

2. Set Up Flat Rate Shipping

A fixed cost is applied to shipping orders within a specific zone.

How to do that?

Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping Zones, and click Add Shipping Method > Flat Rate.

3. Offer Free Shipping

Various eCommerce research has shown that offering free shipping to customers can help online stores get more sales.

You can also do that on your WooCommerce store.

You can set free shipping for your customers based on the minimum order amount, coupons, or free shipping for specific products.

How to do that?

Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Zones, add Free Shipping and set the conditions.

4. Enable Weight-Based Shipping

This option is ideal for your store if you sell products of varying sizes and weights.

How to do that?

Use a plugin like “Weight Based Shipping for WooCommerce” that will automatically calculate shipping costs based on the weight of the products.

Configure weight ranges and assign different shipping costs accordingly.

5. Local Pickup Option

Enable the Local Pickup option for customers who prefer to pick up items.

How to do that?

Go to WooCommerce > Shipping Zones, add Local Pickup, and set it as free or paid, depending on your preference.

6. Add Shipping Rate Based on Order Value

To encourage your customers to spend more, you must offer them reduced or free shipping on orders over a certain amount.

How to do that?

Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping Zones, select Flat Rate or Free Shipping and set a minimum order threshold.

7. Handling Taxable Shipping

Do you want to apply taxes to the shipping charges? Set shipping tax options to ensure that your shipping charges are correctly taxed.

How to do that?

Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Tax, and under Shipping Tax Class, select whether shipping is taxable.

If the tax applies to the shipping, choose the appropriate tax rate based on the shipped product.

15. Test Shipping Setup

Before going live, always test your shipping setup.

Check if the rates for different zones, product categories, and weight classes are accurate.

Use different addresses and cart scenarios to display customers’ shipping charges correctly.

Consult a WooCommerce developer for any confusions or queries.
