As an online marketer, I am being asked questions like “What is the difference between Facebook Advertising and Google Ads?”, “Does Facebook Advertising work better for businesses or Google Ads?” , “Is Google Ads more expensive than Facebook Advertising or vice versa?”.

In this post, I am going to compare Google Ads with Facebook Advertising and we will also see which option is suitable for your business.

Let’s begin!

Google Adwords and Facebook Advertising can be compared based on below parameters:

#1 Urgency

People make queries on search engines only when they are looking for some kind of information, product, or service. In other words, when you advertise your business on Google, you know that your product or service is already in demand and users are searching for a vendor like you. It means that there is a sense of urgency for your targeted users to decide whether to buy from you or not.

In the case of Facebook, you have to generate demand for your products and services. Your audience, when on Facebook, is not in the mood to decide whether they should buy your services/products or not. People come to Facebook to enjoy and spend some fun time with their family, friends, and colleagues. So, there is no urgency for them to make any decision.

Therefore, the conversion rate on Google Ads is generally high as compared to Facebook Advertising.

Winner: When it comes to urgency, Google Ads is the winner.

When is the right situation for you to advertise on Google rather than Facebook?

If you want to grow your sales (products/services) or leads (inquiries/signup/subscription) in a minimum amount of time, Google Ads is the best option for you.

#2 Engagement

We all know that people love to engage with their friends, family, or community on Facebook. So, by advertising your business on Facebook, you get a chance to encourage your targeted audience to get engaged with your advertisements or Facebook page/group.

With Google Ads, you simply advertise your business and encourage people to click your ad and land on your website.  So, there are the least chances of engagement, if any, in the case of Google Advertising.

Winner: When it comes to engagement, Facebook is, no doubt, the winner.

Do you intend to increase engagement?

If you want to increase engagement (likes, comments, sharing) on your Facebook page/group, then Facebook advertising is the best option for you.

#3 Targeting

With more than 1.4 billion users, it’s pretty obvious that Facebook advertising allows you to reach your targeted audience more massively than any other online advertising platform.

So, if you aim to reach your specific target audience (like a female, age group 25-30, living in Singapore, etc.), then there is no other best platform on this planet than Facebook. It allows you to define your specific audience and target them for your advertisements.

In the case of Google Ads, your ads are being served to all the people who are making the search queries that you are targeting. Needless to mention, this group of people could be of any age, gender, and so on. Of course, you have the option to choose region, timings, etc. when you run your ads on Google but Facebook is still ahead when it comes to targeted advertising.

Winner: When it comes to targeting, Facebook is, again, the winner.

#4 Return on Investment

When it comes to ROI (Return on Investment), I feel that Google Ads stays ahead of Facebook advertising. Why? Well, below are some of the reasons:

A. With Google Ads, you get instant sales & conversions because your targeted audience is looking for vendors/service providers like you. Unlike Facebook advertising, where you need to create a demand for your products or services. In other words, you need to sow the seeds of sales and you never know when you will be able to close your clients.

B. Google Ads works best for B2B businesses whereas Facebook advertising, in my opinion, is great for B2C businesses.

C. In the case of Facebook advertising, you don’t have the option to target your ads at certain times within the day or on certain days of the week unless you choose a lifetime budget however in the case of Google Ads, you can do this easily.

#5 Cost

When it comes to cost, both could be expensive, if not handled properly however Google Ads stays on the higher side as compared to Facebook when it comes to cost. Therefore, it is always advisable to hire an advertising specialist who could help you save your money and get you high returns on your investment.
Conclusion:

Whether you should invest your advertising dollars on Google or Facebook, entirely depends on your goals. Now, since we know that if you need immediate sales & conversions for your business and have a decent budget too, Google Ads is the best option for you. It can grow your business.

However, if you want to establish a strong brand for your business and want your targeted audience to engage, invest in Facebook advertising.
